This question probably belongs in tech. questions, but.

Does anyone know a good way to find if an internet domain name is being used, or is available?

Re: Domain Name

www.networksolutions.com is the quickest way to do a search for available names.

I use godaddy.com to register and manage my domains. they are cheap and VERY good service.

Thanks Noel.

Bondo, I tried that, of course. I'm just being cautious.

Re: Domain Name

Bondo, a healthy chunk of registered domains are used internally for corporate LANs. If you type their name into a browser window, it comes back as if the domain doesn’t exist, but really it does. Need to go to any of the “who is” websites or domain registration service websites and type in the domain name there.

Fwiw, I know who owns ftl.com. It was registered as the initials for Faster Than Light. Since that time, he has received a lot of offers to sell the domain, including a series of offers from Fruit of The Loom. It’s used as a LAN domain. Type it into your browser and see the msg:

http://ftl.com/
