Hard to believe there could be enough rat poison to get into everything they made ?

The Aflatoxin still makes more sense

Rat poision from China. Came over in some meat.
I would say it didn't Tommays, just a safety measure on their part.

As I understand it the tainted food is only in the MOIST variety. No dry food has been involved. The tainted grain (wheat) was supplied by China and contains a rat poison NOT legal in the states:^...........go figure. Information on the toxin is being made available to vets so they can better treat the poisoned animals. :'(

Two or three manufactures produce all the brands listed, that explains the vast amount and wide variety of foods involved.

The Aflatoxin forms in grain that was stored wet (like a trip from china)we are the worlds bread basket and they bought in grain from china i am not buying that one

Aflatoxin testing is critical USDA requirement in food and a known problem people get sick all the time when they buy the little bags of grain form the street vendor in poor neighborhoods

1. The facility must be able to perform quantitative tests on grain, itemizing results in parts per million (ppm) and parts per billion (ppb). Test kits used must be certified by GIPSA.
2. The facility must be a recognized commercial, government, or university testing lab that uses industry recognized sample sizes, equipment, and procedures for testing aflatoxin.

Re: Dog and Cat food recall.

I don't know why I'm posting this as I'm going to probably stir up the shyt, but here goes...

While I do agree that a bad thing happened and someone should be held accountable, this has to be brought back to reality. These are animals. They are not people. I've had dogs, hampsters and birds as pets, and while they make good companions you have to keep in mind it's an animal. Just because it has a name and a collar doesn't change anything. It's not a family member, which is why you don't go to jail for murder no matter how many you kill. You may feel its part of your family, and that's fine, but push comes to shove, it's a dog, or cat, or bird, not a child. You may love it dearly, as I loved my pets, but it's still a pet. This isn't a hanous crime, it's a bad crime, no doubt, if it was even a crime at all.

I feel for everybody who lost their pets, but not because they lost a family member, but because they lost a companion.

We humans sometimes lose perspective when love is involved, and I understand totally.

Please don't let my post make you feel I'm "blowing off" the loss of these animals. I'm not. I watch animal precinct (sp) and animal cops all the time, and I tear up at the abuse I see. It's awful, but I tear up much harder at abused kids I see on tv.

WITF,

I agree in principal with what you say. I posted this thread as a warning, not an opportunity to rail against the manufacturer(s). Yeh, check your dog/cat food, it might be tainted.

I don't think animals should have rights in the same way we as humans have rights. But if you steal a car you go to jail, if you steal a dog you go to ? ? ? If you get your rocks off torturing animals, there is a cell with your name on it somewhere. When people take so called "rights" to the extreme we end up with some rather bizarre stories.

When providing food for millions of animals if shouldn't come as a huge surprize that this could happen. And with Americans believing that everything should be available for $10 or cheaper, I can't believe this hasn't happened before and more frequently. I am sure that the mfg'rs had no intention of hurting anyones family pet.

I am sure you are simply putting perspective on the issue, but understand that there are crimes and jail time involved with certain crimes against animals, just the same as any other property. My dog is MY PROPERTY that I just so happen to love dearly. I would sink my boat before I would shoot my dog.

Amen to that Pointer.

Domestic animals as well as farm animals deserve to be treated humanly, Last time I checked being poisoned and dying a slow death was not humane.
