I don't see Hills Science Diet on that list, therefore i'm thinking that it was not recalled.
Would i be correct in that assumption?

I didn't see it on the list so I guess it isn't. This mfg'r has their butts on the line so I would think they would put all their brands on the list.

Many people consider their pets as part of their family, i do not subscribe the belief of ones pets as mere property. I seriously would like to see some heads roll, this is no mishap i regard this as atrocious.

I heard that on the news this evening as well.My ridgeback eats Hills Country Fare chopped burger semi moist. That is when he's not mooching pizza. That really is a crying shame about that tainted pet food though.I would be majorly upset if my buddy was poisoned.

Thanks for the heads-up. Pedigree dog food isn't on the list.

Hey ob, after having Airedales all my life, I tried a Ridgeback. She's a year old now and what a dog!

Yep, since I lost my Hanna, I have become more sensitive to issues relating to our best friends.

I agree, my dog was my best friend. The food I used to get him is on the list too. :|

I looked at some of the dog food on that list and I see that it is the moist variety in cans or pouches. Can anyone tell me if any of the dry food that is packaged in bags is involved?

Thank you'
Nick

Catzilla was 12 years old and so fat she couldn't reach to clean her own bottom.

I switched her to a well known brand of weight control food. One on the list.

She began losing weight and continued to lose weight until she was a mere shadow of her former self.

Took her to the vet. He looked at me with accusation in his eyes and put her on a canned food, also on the list.

Six months later she was dead. :':)'(

I have to wonder if someone's carelessness killed my companion .

I haven't seen anything on discovery of a pathogen yet, except that it seems to coincide with changing a supplier of an ingredient. It might be some new pathogen. Maybe it only happens to pets that also drink pretty blue water from toilets, who knows? Pet food, they say, is more carefully scrutanized than the stuff we mere humans eat.

Re: Dog and Cat food recall.

Well makeing FDA stuff for a liveing It goes like this

If you use water (moist foods) it can and will go bad :(

Threre are a LOT of ways to make it work
1. being really clean
2. tweaking the PH will make it hard for a lot of stuff to grow
3. a preservative system that kills anything that lives through the cooking

Very littel of are stuff gets eaten most just goes on your skin BUT the machinery ALLWAYS goes through a multi step sanitation SOP that should kill anything

The final step is a rinse water test that would find any chemicals left over after cleaning

Before we can fill ANYTHING it goes through a Micro Lab tests in petri dish to see if anything grows

I can assure you that it will be found that there was a HUGE LACK OF following the companys internal SOP on how to do things

I talked to are head micro person and !!!Aflatoxin!!! is what comes up it happens when the raw material gets wet or is otherwise stored wrong

It has to be checked on incomeing and can not be cooked out :(

Rat Poison. That is what is in the bad pet food, ,,,Rat Poison. I can believe it too. I used to hunt some fields behind a dog food processor. Every now and again you would see some huge rats in the Fields right next to the plant. No doubt they were feeding on the food inside.

Re: Dog and Cat food recall.

According to an article I read the particular rat poison(aminopterin) discovered in the pet food was one that is not approved by the FDA for use in the U.S. however is used in several different countries. It read that presently officials are not planning on pursuing any criminal investigation.Sounds a little fishy.I guess we'll just have to see how it pans out.

Re: Dog and Cat food recall.

Hard to believe there could be enough rat poison to get into everything they made ?

The Aflatoxin still makes more sense
