Does it matter which is carb 1,2 and 3?

Hi Guys,

I have been looking at my carbs and they look exactly the same. Why are they numbered and why does the order matter?

They are jetted differently on some motors. Some cylinders run hotter than others depending on the position, cooling system and air flow through the crankcase and the jetting helps control heat and power production from each cylinder.

If it has an enrichner they need ta be in order ta accommodate tha primin' circuit. Each has a different "bib" on it. That's tha main reason for tha V6's anyway. Has "flapper" type, disregard.............But like said, some early V6 Merc/Mariners had a larger size jet for cly 2 and 5 plus the enrichner......
