Does anyone store a boat in a garage? How do you make it fit?

My garage is 24' deep. I had the neighbor contractor build what kind of looks like a doghouse off the back for the drive to fit in. The boat is 20'2" and the trailer has a removable tongue. It fits with about 1/2" if I make sure the boat is way up on the trailer.

Subdivision (no boats allowed outside), cookie-cutter assembly line house, hot water heater in the corner of the garage, too many toys. The perfect storm.

My father built his garage to fit around his 21' Crownline - now he has a 14' Jon boat and that fits without a problem lol. I have a traditional home attached 2 car and i'd be hard pressed to fit any decent sized boat in it - my Yamaha FX Waverunner takes up a lot of space when it's on the trailer.

Agree on that waverunner situation. My FX SHO is a space hog. The new PWC's are so much larger than back in the day.

How is this for close? I can't do diagonal because of the beam width. The rub rail is touching the back of the garage wall.

It was a condition of the Admiral's that the boat would have to fit in the garage and have enough space to walk around it in order to get her approval to buy it. I looked over so many reviews of boats to check for dimensions and calculated the space I would need. I spent an entire weekend re-arranging my garage and extracting every last bit of space I could get. I got rid of so may old parts sitting around that it probably looked like we were moving! When I finally settled on a boat, I spent almost as much time measuring it as I did looking the boat over. My 18' 6" boat took up almost 22 feet but I was able to get it to fit by having a folding tongue on the trailer and shifting my work bench to the left a few feet to create a pocket for the stern drive. I'm glad I left enough spare room to move around the boat because it's nice to have the space to load it up and work on it while it's still in the garage.

Boaters should:
Avoid homes with HOA's
Avoid towns/cities with restrictive outbuilding rules.
Avoid tract homes with tiny garages built for tiny cars.

Should have a garage at least 28' deep.
Should have garage doors at least 10' wide and 8' high.
