Can someone tell me why people back their boats into their slips rather than bow in. I've seen the same thing when boats are at a beach. Like I say it's been 15 years since we've owned a boat so we've been out of the loop. Where we are they all go in bow first but looking at posts and pictures we've noticed in other areas it's the other way.

Re: Docking question

Keeping the bow facing any possible waves is always a good idea with a boat.

If it's a calm day and there are no rocks I beach my rig bow first but on a bigger lake or on a windy day it's a better idea to moor the boat with the bow facing the waves.

Some folks will toss an anchor off the bow in 2-3ft of water and then tie the stern off to a tree or anchor placed on shore to keep the boat from swaying back and forth.

Re: Docking question

What size and type of boat are you anchoring? I'm assuming it's a big one since you reference a slip.

You probably want a big metal danforth style anchor that will bite in and hold well. The rubberized mushroom anchors are for smaller boats.

You may want to start a new thread for this...keep in mind that the brand specific forums tend to be a bit slow on responses(except us Starcraft guys:D).

You might get more help over in the general "Boat topics and questions" (non-motor related) forum on this issue.
