actually the electoral worked ok years ago when most the population was very distant, uneducated and the amount of time to travel was very great. with modern electronic communications I think its time to shift to a popular vote. one person one vote. the only draw back to that is most people are still uneducated and respond blindly to a good spin without knowing anything about the subject. that is where the problem will lie.

good luck and keep posting

Sorry to strongly disagree, Rodbolt. That is precisely what the Liberal's would lead you to believe re the Electoral College. The NEA has so dumbed down education that they only touch on it briefly in schools. It is absolutely the core of the Republican form of Government.

The Liberals have a vested interest in doing away with it. It is part and parcel of the Republic form of government, which they detest. It had virtually nothing to do with the communication technology of the day. It had EVERY thing to do with the concept of THE STATES electing the central leader and, just as importantly it was meant to dilute the power of the high density population areas and balance out power amongst the various geographic areas in the country.

To disagree with the Electoral voting concept is to disagree with the concept of the Republican form of government. And if that is the case, I strongly suggest that one goes back to class and learn what our Forefathers, who set it up, knew.

hello
yes that was another purpose of the electoral college to control the states voting. however at the time only property owners were allowed a vote. much has changed over the years and some electors have on occasion abused the power. however it normally works and right now its probably a better system than most have,
good luck and keep posting

The US is a representative republic not a democracy. True democracies tend to fall into the trap of mob rule. That is precisely the reason we have representatives in congress and the house representing us both on a state and federal level.

The electoral college operates for many of the same reasons.

Great post Boom. Sums it up right there.

How would you like it if NewYork, LA, Chigaco and Houston determined the next president, and the rest of the nation voted for the other guy.

Not very fair, but it could be possible.

Ken

1730, you and Boomyall are correct, of course. But this changes nothing. Liberals will still allways think Bush stole the election in 2000, "
rock the vote", "crack the vote" ect.
The problem is, they actually want mob rule.
The liberals would do anything to delute the states powers, and gain control by whatever means necessary. A democracy that finds out it can vote itself a raise is doomed to failure from it's conception.
