I am trying to figure out the model number and year of my yamaha 115 outboard. If you could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Isnt there a silver and black aluminum tag on the port side, under the cowling, on the actual motor mount? Model number, serial, etc....

look for the tag on port side may be early 1990's

No the plate with the serial number and model number either fell off or was painted over.

Good luck with your question. Related: how do you tell whether the head is aluminum or stainless steel? Also, does anyone sell a service manual for the later model (post-2005) F115? All I can find is the Yamaha version, for about $85 with postage.

No the plate with the serial number and model number either fell off or was painted over.

Sounds like a hot motor. Thieves tend to take them off so they are hard to trace. I would not buy one without the plates on it.
