Just common sense in my boat. Don't hop in with mud covered swim shoes, but I don't even think twice about it really if someone gets mud or sand in it. I clean it off every trip or 2 anyways and constantly have fish blood/scales on the deck anyways.

If I had a cuddie I would say to take shoes off before climbing on the cushions, but I don't. We bought our boat to have fun and at the end of the fun we wash it out, sometimes it's at our dock for a week and sometimes just the weekend. If it gets too messy during one of those weeks we'll rinse it out. I know over time the loose sand will work on the finish, that's why we bought a used boat, it already has some bumps and bruises so we don't feel we have to be so careful. We just have fun and clean it up later, no worries, life is too short.

Pretty much impossible to avoid down here at the beaches and in the swamps and all. Besides, if you're worried about sand in the boat the whole time, you're not relaxing enough, and no one will want to go out with you again because they won't be able to relax either, which is sorta the point, right? Boats get wet, dirty, scratched, dented and dinged....on every trip! Nothing you can do about it. You gotta embrace it and make sure your boat is utilitarian enough to hose out at the end of the day and be done with it. That's why I'll never understand carpeting in a boat? I don't even like it in houses. Embrace he entropy and enjoy.

I agree. Nobody "likes" to have gravel/sand/mud drug into their boat, it's just happens to go with the territory. Granted, I know this thread is more for large boats that are slipped and may not have access to all the proper cleaning supplies/cleaning appliances(shop vac) like I do when I bring it home after each outing. But still, I couldn't imagine asking someone to wash their feet before coming aboard. Then again, we don't take our shoes off in the house either which is all carpeted. As a couple people have said, life's too short and boating with only the worms doesn't sound like much fun either.:)

If you can get the sand off your shoes before climbing in then that would be great - if not then I'll wipe the seat off quick with a handiwipe and vacuum the boat once it is back in the garage. No big deal.

Today I was the one who tracked mud on the carpet ;) Hadn't been on the river in a couple years and forgot that the "sand" by the launch is actually mud. Life goes on.

glad to know there are other boaters around here who enjoy relaxing and use their boats as God intended. But then there are some "boats" that aren't built that way too

I tell ya--when I replaced the carpet in my boat (21yrs old) there was 1/4 inch of sand and gunk in some places under the carpet. Plus when your running 60mph and you get sand blasted--it's not so much fun. So no sand and mud in mine if at all possible please:)

I usually fish alone so any sand or mud is brought onboard by me. I usually clean the boat up when I get home but it's because of catfish slime more than sand.

The admiral and I have come to an agreement.
If and when we beach this boat again she will rinse the gravel and sand off her shoes if I provide her with a proper ladder with which to board.
And she will keep muddy shoes out of the cuddy. The deck can be rinsed anytime as its vinyl.
I don't ask anyone to rinse their feet at the dock or take their shoes off unless they are muddy.

I guess I am in the minority . . .

I never hesitate to ask people to dunk their feet and their sandals. I have no surfaces to step on other than white vinyl or polished gelcoat. There are no non-skid surfaces or steps. It is so warm, water and air, where we boat that everyone wears flip flops anyway, so this is rarely an issue. If they have to, I prefer they step to the vinyl, and then I quietly clean it up. Sand or gravel with weight on it on gelcoat is a bad combo for sure.

I used to say "there are only two rules on my boat. No sand and no drowning, listed in priority order" I decided that was over the top

Okay, I'm not sure about this, which rule did you do away with? LOL :)

I like the pickup truck bed analogy. I don't purposely abuse it, but it is there to be used. I clean it off if it gets dirty when I get home.

Bad poll. No choice of "Oh HELL no, you are not bringing those dirty feet on my boat."

We have "Nekkid Feet Only" signs at each door, and those feet better be CLEAN.

I treat my boats like a pick-up truck and would regard your question like caring for the bed--you don't intentionally scratch it up and you do what you can to reduce it, but it's there to be used.

That's about how I treat mine. It's a self-bailing deck on a boat lift, so occasionally I just hose it off, or the next storm deals with it. Once per year it gets the full power washer treatment.

My current biggest mess problem is a pair of Ospreys dropping sticks in the boat, and sitting on the windshield and carping on the passenger seat. For some reason, they don't carp on my driver's seat. It's no big deal, and in a way, dropping the sticks is kind of handy. My dog like to swim out and retrieve the sticks when I fling them out past the end of the pier from the boat.

BTW, you know how Bald Eagles mate in way up in the sky in mid air? Well Ospreys like to mate on top of my bimini top, screaming their heads off.

A lady here local in St Charles, Mo makes them but she also sells them on ebay for I think $4 or $5 each . She will custom make them how you want. Just search ebay for Naked Feet. Sorry for the bad pic I posted here is a better one and this one has a grey outline around the lettering.
