Do trailer backup lights really help you see?

Have seen backup lights on a few trailers. They are on bigger trailers, not small ones like I use on my 14 and 16' boat trailers.

Does anyone here find them helpful? Isn't the boat blocking the view?

Just wondering.

they are helpful if you do a lot of night or early morning backing.

They're helpful to let other people around you know you are backing up.
