Do I really screw up my lower?

Went boating today, front anchor fell off the bow when doing about 30 MPH. I instantly went to put it in neutral, but did it too hard and went into reverse!! Now I have no forward or reverse! I just spent $2000 to have the lower unit overhauled!!! Is there a shear pin or something that protects the lower unit from this situation??? And if so how hard to fix it? And how much? Oh, it is a 1997 DT225 2 stroke....

Could be any number of things, only way to tell is to pull it to bits for inspection, maybe the place that rebuilt it for you would be the place to take it, if you are not to confident at doing it yourself.

Have you checked to see if you spun the prop? Will the lower shift to forward or reverse or is it frozen in neutral?

Prop spins freely,,whether in gear or or not :( engine still runs great,, water peeing out the side,,so I know at least the drive shaft is ok..

Is the entire prop turning or is it just the outer section turning? Next steps would be to check the shift cable and shift shaft I would think.
