Do I need to remove epoxy paint?

I have a 93' Four Winns 220 horizon and the motor mount stringers have some moisture in them. I drilled out some holes from the top and poured in some antifreeze, let it sit for a couple of hours, then vacumed out the moisture (several days). I am thinking of injecting epoxy into the stringers, then adding a couple coats of glass. My question is , the stringer is painted with epoxy paint (I guess). Do I have to remove the paint, or can I glass over the paint after "roughing it up".

Thanks for your input. This is my first post.

First off what was the purpose of the antifreeze? To stop rot? If it was I hope you don't expect any great results. Little confused about "painted epoxy" - do you mean gel coat? If so then yes, some 80# paper and you're good to go. Do use epoxy, not a cheaper polyester resin. Poly does not adhere well to itself - some chemical thing I guess. Please don't think that by just pouring some epoxy in those holes your problem will be solved - far from it. First off the moisture content of the receiving wood must be less then 14% - 9% is good. Nothing will stick to wet wood, there will be absolutely no penetration and the wood that remains will continue to wick moisture throughout the remaining lumber. There must be a bizillion posts here concerning your identical problem - use the search function -and good luck in your project. :D

Nah, probably not epoxy. Take some laquer thinner on a rag and wipe that surface pretty good. If it comes off on the rag it's more than likely just a generic ole' oil based paint. Can't say that I ever recall seeing blue paint in that particular area - from the factory that is.
