Just a question do i need to fiberglass the whole deck or can i just tab it in place?

New to this here so bear with me.

Its a larson walkthrough. Whole deck was shot. Im on a tight budget. Verry tight. Baby on the way.

Anywho i have to put a new transom in and stringers and decking. Maby foam?

The stringers are laying flat wise going up twards the front. laying over smaller peices crosswize. Then they had foam sourronding it all. Question is is it normal ??

Where can i get fiberglass cloth at a cheap price ?
And can i use b/c sanded pine ply for all the work ?

Re: Do i need to glass the whole deck??

Most people here use fiberglassite.com for their glass. ebay works, too. I bought all of my glass off ebay and got a great deal. BC plywood will do just fine (the same as I'm using for my resto), but you will need to glass at least the top and resin coat (at a minimum) the bottom. Plywood will split in a matter of months if left unsealed.

Assuming you have had this boat for a while, you already know the expense they create. Rebuilding one is no different. Whatever think you will need for the restore will likely go up 50% if not 100%. I am already at the 100% over budget mark on mine, and I'm doing the same thing you are.

Not trying to scare you, just trying to bring in some reality, as running out of money won't help either the baby or your boat (or your sanity).

uscomposites.com is the place to get resin, as well. Great prices over there.

Check out my resto thread in my sig, as it may help you get started. I am just to the point of measuring and cutting the new stringers and deck, so you can learn from my mistakes and save some money that way. ;)

If you're using epoxy, you can spread a coat of that over the deck and skip the glass, but that doesn't save you much, if anything.

To be done right, you should glass the whole floor whether polyester or epoxy, or you'll be in there again.

Ok what cloth should i use? one layer or two?

I was thinkin about useing bondoglass in the corners to fillet them then a strip of cloth over that on all the edges. Then a layer on the whole deck. Will that be good enuf? (only 1 layer of cloth?)

1 layer of CSM/mat is fine. The wood is already pretty strong - you're primarily adding a tough top-coat to the floor to prevent water getting in from the top and give it strength if it does ever start to get soft.

So is it ok to just Use matt and leav it long enuf to run up the sides?

Or should i use biaxial to tab it then lay matt over the whole thing?
