I want to make sure I have one in the event of an oil pan blowout or anything else
How do I know if I have one?
Where is it and how do I test it?

It sure would have been nice if Mercruiser would have been nice enough to added a low level indicator but I guess they would rather sell more engines :(. I did find a cool dipstick that was sold in the early 2010s called the Intellistick but they overpriced themselves into oblivion.

Most MCs have oil pressure senders and oil switches. The switches and Temperature switches are connected to a common alarm, at least mine are. Unfortunately, unless very loud, they are difficult to hear while motor is running. I purchased extra loud ones so that I would be sure to hear them in the event I lost oil pressure or motor got hot. I cannot speak for 4.3 motors, but my 383 had oil pressure/switches located near distributor and oil filter. The filter location is difficult to access. So, I relocated it near the one by the distributor using a T coupler. You might have to use a mirror to see the switch near the filter.

Then GM would have had to make provisions in the oil pan to mount the idiot level sensor. However check oil daily is part of boat ownership

Ya my Toyota tells me when to get a coffee on a long trip. It's such a nuisance having all these backup features to prevent catastrophic engine damage. I wish they would just drive themselves oh wait....
