dizzy with cable adjustment

Hey guys,<br /> please give me a hand with some trusty advise on how to adjust the throttle and shift cable on my project starcraft mariner..20 hp merc .. changed old and seized up cables with a new pair..problem is that now i dont have full throttle range in reverse..how can I get these cables adjusted correctly..spend an hour tinkering with moving the barrels one way..than back on both sides..Im loosing my mind.

The throttle cable needs to be adjusted to JUST hit wide open when in forward. Any extra throttle travel is wasted.<br /><br />That may be your reverse problem.

Also, you are not supposed to have full throttle range in reverse. Like djohns said, you should adjust based on full throttle in forward, and reverse ends up a percentage of forward, because it would be highly unsafe to have full throttle in reverse. You can end up forcing water over the transom or worse. Good luck....
