That can't happen, you must be lying, your boat should have instantly sunk and the motor should have blown up. You are not allowed to report good results anytime a foil is discussed.

Nice to see it worked out for you.

Final choice = the Junior. Many know already I own 2 OB's an OMC 9.9 and a Force 15 hp. Mounted on a 14 footer fiber and with 2 passenger onboard the 9.9 will hardly plane an will labor keeping on plane with a head wind. The 15 hp cures all that but is a noisier motor and will not idle smooth with fishing. Now I installed the hydrofin Jr. on the 9.9 and the result is this: Takes the boat on plane almost as fast as the 15 hp, top speed has noticebly increased, and will keep the boat on plane with reduced trottle. Basicialy if behaves like the 15 hp. It is important to have the trim ajustement fully inward to get those results. I could not be happier. Cheers.
Nb: I know the post is not old, but thought my feedback could help those wondering about the impact of installing a hydrofoil on a smalll OB"

Awesome. Glad to see this worked out for you. Like many of the naysayers, I'm personally skeptical that a hydrofoil is all that useful on larger boats that have a much higher power-to-weight ratio, but on our smaller underpowered boats, which are also really light and a challenge to balance properly, I think they are great.

I actually just upgraded to a 7.5hp that I got for a steal (1983, used only as a kicker). It will plane the boat out if the situations are *just right* and hit 14mph, but I just put the fin on it today (It's the same motor foot, so it fit perfectly) and I'll be taking it out today for trials. I expect it to plane out much more predictably and possibly hit 17-20mph.

Redfighsc: once owned a 20 footer central console with 115 tower on it. The boat was very light and I had to upgrade the prop from 19" to 21" in order to prevent overeving above 6000 rmp. So I dont see how a hydrofoil would have improved performance. But I have seen many heavier boats that took a long time to plane and Imho would have the same benefits from a hydrofoil as a smaller boat. Just my 2 cents and I would rather switch than fight ... lol Cheers.

More feedback: last week installed a new Stingray junior on the Force 15 hp hoping performance would improve as it did with the OMC 9.9 hp. It did not work well on the Force OB. Lower top speed, No difference on hole shot, motor seems to labor more than usual no matter at what knotch the LU angle ajustement was set. And that was with same weight onboard, same water condition, ect. Total disapointement. Dont ask me why such difference from one OB to the other ... I simply dont know.

If the foil is dragging in the water at speed this result isn't uncommon. Check the height of the AV plate to the transom on each motor.

Which improvement did you get with the 9.9 ? Hydrofoils must run paralell to water level when boats on plane, if not will create water drag and slow boat & engine down. Have experimented long with them on 9.9 & 15 HP engines, preffer to move weight forwards or distribute weight properly on deck than to install them, can be real garbage collectors...

Thank you for the information. The OMC is mounted on the boat right now and the hydrofoil is approx one inch below the transom and it works perfect. I'll check the spacing on the Force and see if I can raise it a bit by using shims between the motor bracket and transom.
If still no go I'll simply remove the hydrofoil. If I do that will I need to block the 4 holes drilled in the AV plate ? Tx

It very well could be that your Force 15hp was already set up the way it needed to be and was not underpowering your boat. Could also have something to do with the prop pitch, or perhaps the height of the motor, as suggested above.

If the 15hp was already a good match for the boat, then adding the hydrofoil just adds in extra "data" and thus may not be contributing much to the situation.

You don't need to plug the holes in your anti-vent plate, just make sure they don't have any big burrs on them.

Took the hydrofoil off the Force 15 hp and got my motor back to normal operation. The CP is approx 1/2 to 3/4 inch lower than the OMC so I presume it created drag. The hydrofoil definitely stays on the OMC 9.9 hp.

Were these motors on the same boat? If they were on different boats, the difference may be the design/shape of your hull, esp. near the transom.

Same boat, same passengers (2) same river, same wind condition. Cheers
