Re: DIY guide ons

I made my own guides using the extra steel I had laying around. Added Pool Noodle (from dollar store) and all it good. In all, I paid $2 - in total.

To view pictures of the Boat Guides I created (welded) for my Capri trailer (and 17ft Bayliner), surf:

If one is "good with a welder", then sure. Make your own by copying designs of store bought product. Especially if you can build for less cost than buying...

I came up with a completely different idea & it cost me nothing. I have an old 15' fiberglass tri-hull and this seems to work fine for me. A short piece of 2x4 and a 4x4 cut diagonally and some plastic from an old rain bucket. Because of the shape of the bottom of my boat, I just have to giude her on the trailer within a foot of center. I left 1/4" on each side. See Photo

I got two threded flanges 3/4 and got a 8 inch pipe and put that into the flange put on a 90 elbow and then a 10 inch pipe bolted my flange to the trailer and then slid my pvc tube over that and put my lights in to it and put led markers on top so at night I can load up in the dark I think it cost me 50 bucks and I have seen like it on sail for 130 and up I will post a pic next time I go to the boat

If you're going to make them yourself, make them longer (taller) than necessary. They can be a huge help backing a trailer up.

Yes, long is good. They help loading at natural uneven ramps. I had the top of one of these guides fully submerged while looking for the sweet spot on this natural sloping rock ramp. By the way, if anyone's interested, that's the Big Chute Marine Railway rail car (yellow) in the background. - Grandad
