Neat, but jeeze $22?

This one is even crazier - $14 for a standard brass plug?
Plug Only For Plug 1 - Perko 742DP1

Guess it would be easy enough to just drill your plug and insert a .20 roll pin which is what it looks like the cross piece is.

I was only interested in finding a picture of the plug. That was the first one that came up. You can find these for a few bucks in various places. I think the last one I got cost about a buck and half. Don't remember where exactly I got it, but it was some store in FL.

While it may not be a concern for you... it was for me. I used it last night and it worked great. No water in the bilge. No wrench. :joyous:

Glad it worked and I think it's fun to make gadgets like that--and when you make something instead of buying it you "stick it to the man." I'm in a club with a bunch of guys who love doing things like that and over-engineering simple fixes and fixing broken stuff that ought to be replaced--supposed to be a hunt club but more of a DIY haven and preservation of a historical building.

And hence my crescent wrench comment--around here at least, that's how guys compliment each other, not with hugs and fluffing your pillows.

I liked the wrench idea... but my issue was getting out of the boat, putting the ladder up, then having to get back in to get the wrench that I forgot to get the first time. My first thoughts were to get a magnet of some sort and just have the wrench on the trailer all the time. But with my luck, I would lose it on the road and it would go through a windshield. Plus, grinding metal is fun. :D

generally attaching stuff to the trailer is not a good idea; there is a lot of bouncing so the odds of losing it are certain, and the risk of injury to a following vehicle is too great. I lost a tire iron, winch crank, and other stuff so I don't do that any more. Used to live near a dip in the street and collected a dozen magnetic hide-a-key boxes there.

Mount a small water tight tool box on the trailer tongue. Keep your tow and launch essentials in it and always handy. Have a second box with on board tools stowed somewhere safe from weather. If you need more than what these two boxes will hold, odds are you shouldn't be heading out on the lake.
