Is there even a 2.3L boat engine? Its a pretty simple question that should have a simple answer. Knowing Volvo they use the same engine for a LONG time.
Well, it sounds like its getting a 2.3L car engine then. There is a 2.1L car engine as well. No 2.5L car engine though.
The previous owner really messed things up for my buddies. There are no ID tags on the engine. The carb isnt original and there is all sorts of other stuff that isnt original on the engine. Time to start over with clean slate so we know what we are working with.
Another budget boat build. Half off day at the junkyard is coming up and I can get a long block for $75.
Just remember one thing. Things like Fuel pumps, Carbs, Distributors, alterntors, starters, cam, core plugs, etc. are marine, NOT autormotive.

Anybody know the compression ratio? Or where I could find it?
If I need to swap internals like pistons or rings I know exactly what Volvos to grab em from if they have the correct compression ratio. The early 80's 240 Volvo.
