We had a family gathering this weekend. My DIL is from GA and some of her family had been affected by the hurricane. I said that I wanted to donate to the help fund and had thought about the Red Cross.

My son immediately said NOOOO, it is a govt. thing and most of the money is lost.

My DIL started streaming her church and I was moved. They said that 100% would go to relief.

I just joined the movement and made a donation. Every dollar counts. I endorse this link and suggest all of us do the same.

Most people all believe anything that has to do with the Govt is waste. Not going to get into which one(s) are better then the other, but only the big machine knows how to get a lot stuff to one place the fast

What I posted was not a national charity. It was my DIL's church in Georgia that is close to the needs.

My DIL's parents were hit by the storm. They sustained damage, but not catastrophic. Their house is still livable and they finally got the power back.

After listening to their Pastor speak on Sunday morning's streaming live, I was convinced that this was a worthy place to donate.

I live near Buffalo, NY. Last Winter we got 7 FEET of snow that crippled us. We survived due to the help we received. Now I'm happy to pay forward.

I’m very cautious of donating money to Charity.

That's one of the reasons I volunteer with who I do ... because I can see what is actually happening and know where my money goes.

nvoad.org is a decent place to see established groups who are working in disaster relief (each state has a VOAD site as well - so you can dial in more locally). I've been very impressed with Samaritan's Purse over the years, and have worked with them a few times. Hopeforce.org is another that I know that does good work, and is good with money.

Especially when you request to see what % of donations are delivered vs "administrative" costs, and they change the subject.

There's stories out there about national charities, alot not so good. I've heard good things about Samaritans Purse. I really haven't heard anything bad about Salvation Army. That's who I just went thru. They let you pick where you want your monies to go. Whether it gets there I have no idea. I do know my heart is in the right place.....

Good question. It doesn’t seem to work that way. We help all other countries, but no apparant reciprocal action.
