I have a 1987 260 mercruiser that I removed the dipstick tube. The tube came out easily by simply pulling upward and turning. The tube has a beleved ring approx, 12 inches from the bottom. At the point where the tube enter the block the hole looks to also be tapered. My problem is that the tube will not go in far enought to align the mounting screw. When it came out the fit seemed tight where oil could not seep out. I have tried freezing the tube and heating the hole opening and the tube just will not go in deeper than flush at the top. I am sure it will leak oil unless I can somehow install a gasket and apply pressure from the mounting screw or get the tube in farther. Any suggestion is much appreciated.

Ayuh,... The Swell in the tube just rests snuggly at the top of the block opening...

Just put some #2 form-a-gasket on the lower 1/2 of the swell,+ push it in...
The tube might need alittle "Tuning" to align the keeper bolt...
