Fluke makes mostly digital meters too. The comparison are allways a matter of ranges the meter is capable of reading. Also to compare is cost. You can get great range, accuracy at a modest cost. Also, anolod as opposed to digital, is sometimes much easier to read because of it's needle.<br />It's easrier to see the needle move up and down, as opposed to a digital readout, constantly changing, and changing faster than the eye can read it. Most good digitals have an "analog bar graph" display because of this. If you choose a digi, make sure yours has this feature.

CAN YOU RECOMEND A METER TO PURCHASE MODEST COST.IN OTHERWORDS A METER THAT DOES DC. AC OHMS VOLTS THAT PRINTS OUT DIGITAL READINGS FALL UNDER A FLUKE METER THE REASON I AM ASKING I JUST REPAIRED A 120 FORCE WITHOUT A METER BY TROUBLE SHOOTING SWAPING WIRES; WHICH THOUGHT IT WAS THE POWERPACK; WHEN INSTALLED HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. SWAP STATOR WIRES ;FOUND MY PROBLEM ;WAS THE STATOR.THANK *** REPAIRED IT MYSELF @ WITH HELP FROM THIS CHAT. GREAT GUYS HERE TO HELP. @ IF I HAD A METER PROBERLY WOULD NOT HAD TO BUY A POWERPACK; BUT IT RUNS GREAT KNOW THANKS FOR THE REPLY

Re: DIGITAL METERS

Lonewolf, there are different types of dc meters. A typical dc meter will NOT read a peak voltage but only an average voltage. If you are going to use the meter to troubleshoot your motor you should purchase a specific meter that will read peak voltage, possibly a PRV (peak reading voltmeter). Ask a dealer which meter the motor manufacture recommends. Then look around for the best deal or an equivalent meter. To understand how a peak meter differs from a conventional, take a ac sine wave going positive then negative. Rectifiers turn the negative wave positive so you have all positive waves (looks like mountain peaks next to each other). A typical dc meter will average the height of the mountain peaks while a peak dc meter will not only be able to average but also tell you the peak height. I hope this helps and not confuse. good luck

Re: DIGITAL METERS

I bought my DVA meter from mercury dealer for $65. They wouldnt order "mercury tools" when asked, but I gave them the part # and they ordered it without question. Get one, its essential for troubleshooting CDI ignitions.

Re: DIGITAL METERS

I dont have the #, but its usually referenced in a merc or force manual in the ignition section. Merc makes 2 types, one is a full analog (needled) volt-ohm-DVA meter, and the other is a DVA adapter. The adapter is basically a diode bridge and capacitor that stores the peak voltage so any meter can read it. You simply plug your meter leads into it. But they wanted $50 for just this, vs 65 for a whole meter. It is possible to make a DVA adapter for about $10 to use with any meter.
