1993 Mercury 75hp - oil injected....hasn't been on the water in 2 yrs. Started fine ran well at idle and half throttle...dies at higher throttle... I'm sure it's a fuel carburetor issue but how do I begin to troubleshoot? Are there some things that I should do before ripping off the carburetor and starting a rebuild? I have cleaned the tanks and used "stabil" ....open to further suggestions....thx :confused:

Mine did that.. it was a clogged fuel filter. It also melted a piston.

JBT;

Sorry about that, the information was for a Merc and I just realized this was the Force forum. If yours is a Merc, post there with your engine s/n and I will get you the service manual and parts listing

If it has an accelerator pump. check that. It will be on the fuel pump side and will have a lever pushing a button at high throttle settings. Replacement is about 90 bucks though.

JBT;

Here is the information I promised you from the Force forum:

JBT;

Need your s/n to confirm but this should be the service manual you require:

http://1manual.com/Mercury manuals...45_2/cover.pdf

You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed to use this manual. If you scroll down to the lower part of the opening page, you will see the various engine components in red. Click on the one you want and when the first page opens, click on the "Save As" icon at the top LH corner of the page and you can save it to your computer.

Parts listing:

At what rpm does it die? If it just misses and cuts off at about 2500 rpm it could be high speed side of stator. Your engine does not have the accelerater pump,if it is fuel problems, clean and rebuild carbs. Do not try to use a additive/cleaner in fuel system to clean.
