Re: Didn't leave enough anchor line out.

Should be more like $10,000, forfeiture of the boat and suspension of any professional license related to boating/fishing they may have. This is very near an attempted murder or at least attempted manslaughter. They could very easily have drown or become shark poop if left adrift.

That law needs some real TEETH!!!!

The law won't get changed until someone IS killed!!!

That was about 10 years ago, and I actually heard about that story from a marine authority officer. I was in their offices to report an incident myself. I was diving and a professional crayfishing boat was dropping his traps on us, deliberately. After I noticed the third one coming down, I surfaced and asked what the hell he thought he was doing. He told me to f...off, these were his waters and I was stealing his crayfish.... When I recounted my incident to marine officer, he just shook his head and said "One day those bast...ds are going to kill someone, and there's nothing we can do about it!" Then told me about the other divers.

And yes, the professional fishing industry in this country thinks they own all the fish and crustaceans in the water, and nobody else should be allowed to catch them.... How do I know that? Because I use to work as an electronics tech (in the late 80s/ early 90s) fixing marine equipment (radars, GPS, sounders, sonars, radios....) and got the inside poop on the industry.... Trust me, it's scary the lengths some of them have gone to....

BTW, the law still hasn't changed....

Chris........

A couple years ago on Lake Grapevine here in Texas a young father was out on the boat during a windy day , the whole family was on the boat but he was the only one with a clue how to operate it. He stopped the boat in the middle of the lake to jump off and swim. The wind was blowing the boat away from him faster than he could swim. No one on the boat could help and he drown getting exhausted swimimg after the boat.

There should always be at least 2 people who know how to operate a boat on the boat if there are other passengers, and only one of those is allowed in the water at any given time unless one is tied to the boat with a rope at all times.

As a Divemaster I will just say this: ALWAYS one person stays onboard while divers are down. And they are a safety observer not there to catch some rays.

To the "proffesional fisherman" they need to think on how they will retrieve thier traps before P___ing off a diver.
