never seen a sled passing you on the river at 70 mph
What a joke..look dude, did the sled thing when I lived in northern Illinois 30 years ago. Remember when Yamaha first came out with the Phazer? Decent front suspension? We stuck a Nitrous bottle on it...and raced a bottle Kow...nuff said..
70..ha...criusing...then ya hit the bottle...

Dad bought a new 6hp Johnson back in 1986 or 1987 that called for 100 to 1. the dealer told him to run it 50 to 1 for a few tanks full on break in. Then they sent a letter a couple of months later saying that it should be 50 to 1 instead of 100 to 1.

I have the same motor (15hp) as a kicker on my 5000lb boat..I'd be a fool to run it at 100-1..the stress is enormous in my app..

My snowmobile (yamaha sx600R) uses about 60:1 at WOT and less than 100:1 at normal trail crusing speeds. I've only seen it use the 60:1 after crossing 22 miles of lake in the summer with it :D burns alot of gas running 60-70mph @ WOT across a lake in summer.

Re: did they ever use 100:1

Jimmbo was right about OMC using 100:1. There was internal corrosion showing up on motors that didn't get run often. It was happening while motors were still on warranty. They went back to 50:1 because it leaves a longer lasting protective film on the parts. Otherwise, 100:1 gave plenty of wear protection and wasn't a problem.
