I have 3 lakes within 10 miles of where I live. One large with big boats and big waves(Ft Loudon on the Tennessee river). One Medium(Tellico) and one smaller( Melton Hill on the clinch). Melton Hill is navigatable for about 30 miles upstream. Downstream it eventually runs into the Tennessee and goes all the way to the gulf. Melton Hill is deep(about 70' from bank to bank) and probably 600-100' wide. For some reason there are always lots of boats there but they all seem to go somewhere different. The water is glass 90% of the time and that is my favorite part about it. Letting the kids tube is easy on smooth water. It is cool water too so it feels great in the summer. Norris lake is upstream and it has a huge tall dam. Melton Hill is fed from the bottom of Norris so the water is cold. Melton hill is pretty much a flooded valley and very senic. Man I love Melton Hill.

Re: Describe your favorite place to boat.

Hello, neighbor! :) I swear you must live within ten miles of me.

I've only been out three times so far with my new boat -- once on Ft. Loudon and twice on Watts Bar. But this last time on Watts Bar, instead of going downstream to the lake, we went up the Clinch River. Loved it so much! It was a week ago last Tuesday, so there was still a ton of debris in the water from the storms.

Thinking about hitting the Clinch again on Saturday, this time from just below the Melton Hill dam. Hoping for good weather!

I go to the California Delta. 500+ miles of waterway. There are a few good lakes around here too, but the Delta is 5 minutes from my house (though I usually launch 15 minutes away). Wish Clear Lake was closer..but that's a 2.5 hour drive, will prob never tow my boat there but I've gone up there to fish when my friends rent a cabin.

I go just below Melton Hill at times and run down towards Kingston. I like the above side of the dam the best. We normally put in at the dam and then run a couple of miles upriver. Ever heard of the Crosseyed Cricket, I live close to that.

Sure, I know exactly where that is! I'll have to try the lake side of the dam, it's not far from me at all. I live about five miles from downtown Kingston, so I usually put in at the Gravel Pit.

Grand Lake 'O' the Cherokees, OK. Big enough that 40-50ft cruisers can run around a bit, small enough that bass boats can get around without getting swamped (except on weekends). Great bass/crappie fishing lake. Plenty of areas where only smaller boats can get to (bridge clearance issues), so you can always find a nice quiet spot if you know where to run. People of all walks of life: rich folks with the multi-million dollar homes, poor folks in mobile homes. Beautiful tree lined cliffs all around. I go to several area lakes (Tulsa has a lake within 1 hour in each of the 8 magnetic directions (N,NE,E,SE,etc), but Grand is my favorite.

Delaware and Chesapeake Bays, Intercoastal Waterway and a li'l ol' thing we locals call the Atlantic Ocean. One big playground.

That is Cape May County, NJ and the DelMarVa peninsula for you land-locked folks.

Re: Describe your favorite place to boat.

As the fishing show jingle goes, "Anywhere there's water, you know you'll find me there..."

In Minnesota, I live in St. Paul. Within a 20 minute drive, there are at least 20 lakes where I can launch my boat, plus the Mississippi River, with a ramp right in St. Paul itself. If I give myself an hour, I can probably launch in over 100 lakes. It's an amazing place for boating and fishing.

Fishing is why I boat, so my favorite place to boat is a lake with plenty of structure that will hold fish. I have a favorite lake, but make it a point to try new ones every season. I haven't been skunked yet, since the fish are generally where they are in every lake.

All I need is water, some weeds or rocks, and I'm good.

I'd say Northern Michigan. Either Grand Traverse Bay or Torch Lake. The Bay looks like the Carribean, crystal clear. Torch Lake the water is so blue it looks like it is glowing.

I've boated on 3 of the Great Lakes plus 100's of other lakes in Ontario, but there is nothing better than the St. Lawrence River around the 1000 islands. Every day there is something new to see. Depths range from 300+ feet to mere inches, and than can be over a 20 foot area. Two years ago I was slowly cruising and went from 220 feet to scraping the skeg in 5 minutes.

Re: Describe your favorite place to boat.

Seattle is a great place..urban boating on Lake Union with downtown Seattle and the Space Needle in the background and the Puget Sound for everything else. Its also one of the few places where seaplanes take off literally right over you when your sitting in the boat. Cap that off with Seafair and all sorts of water festivals throughout the summer and its more than enough to keep you busy.

One minor thing though...THE DREARY WEATHER!!!!! On a nice day in the Pacific NW, there is no place I'd rather be though.

I'm a norris laker! Love it! haven't been to the other lakes around here yet, but someday! Hiya neighbors! I love the mountains around the lake, no cellphone service, hehehe, and the private coves! Oh, and pulling up to your own little island thats only 30 ft in diameter is the best camp site you can get!!!
