Derelict Boats

A group of us got together in Clear Lake Shores (South Houston) trying to see who was responsible to remove a boat that had sank at the public boat ramp. What we soon discovered was no one wanted to take responsibility for removing it. Eventually it led us down the path that the State is responsible, the General Land Office was designated to oversee this. It was then discovered that the State has not funded any jurisdiction for removals. We then founded a 501C4 to fund what we can and put pressure on the politicians to fund the state.

I am curious as to what other states do to tackle this problem and your thoughts on what we can do to make cleaning our waterways a reality?

I know FL had abandoned / sunk boats everywhere. Not sure how handled.

Around here the owner gets charged. Sure sometimes the owner is hard to find but eventually they get the bill.

here in FL. they fine the crap out of you until you remove it or they remove it for you. Usually, they remove it for you before you can get a marine salvage company to get if floating again.

by removing, it usually involves a dump truck and a bucket

and they still bill you
