Trying to figure out when I hook up 12v to shunt tool my engine dies

Thank you, I have watched so many videos. There is much confusion on total timing, I still can not get 30% total timing.

So you are not getting enough total advance? without the shunt what do you get at idle and what do you get at 3000 rpm? Do you have an advance timing light
