This is about a 1989 4.3 liter OMC Cobra ignition conversion from points to EST distributor Conversion Kit.
I have changed from points to est on several engines and in the case of the 4.3 liter you have to start the engine, let it warm up and then connect the base timing tool too a positive 12 volt power source. This should remove all advance from the electronic spark timing After you do that , the rpm is supposed to drop to almost stall. You use the timing tool ,set the advance at -8 and remove the timing tool upon which the rpm comes back up . In this case, today I did all that, but the rpm did not go down,(meaning that the electronic advance did not go to zero?) And after removing the timing shunt the rpm did not change back up.
When this happens, should I still set the advance at -8 or should I go to a different number?
As always, thank you for your advice and help.
