Wish it was open season on no wake violators.

Re: Define: No Wake Zone

"Minimum speed required to maintain steerageway" should be the only definition. Up here in coastal Maine we have huge tidal currents in narrow twisting passages all over the place. If conditions are all against you, you may need quite a bit of power to maintain steerageway. And there certainly will be some white water in your bow and stern waves.

The implications of losing steerageway in some of those places are quite severe.

I was told no "white water" behind the boat when taking the Pennsylvania boating course.

I just run a little 12' aluminum boat, with a 5hp outboard. The outboard won't run slow worth a darn. So, when I'm in a No Wake zone, I switch to the little 30 lb. electric trolling motor. I can guarantee that there will be no wake with that, even on its highest-speed setting. [grin]

If you're boating in the Poconos, the term, "No Wake" means running at a slow speed just off plane throwing the largest breaking wake possible by your vessel. This is to be especially observed by 70mph performance boats on a 45mph speed limit lake ;)

Here in Florida your supposed to go just fast enough to be able to keep control of your boat unless your in a boat 36’ or over, they go as fast as they want, not because it’s legal, it’s because they can afford to pay the fine.

What happened to those of you that were in your boat? When did this happen?

Re: Define: No Wake Zone

there is a difference between slow speed and no wake depending on the boat a boat can throw less of a wake on plane than pushing its water at 5 mph. in nc intercoastal waterway there was a guy who put a phony no wake sighn at the end of his dock.on the weekend he would stand out there and scream at people coming by. now you tell me is there less of a wake on plane or when a guy cuts his engine at 30 mph in front of your dock he he he im suprised he still has a dock
