Got to admit South.. Trihulls tear across the water in the right conditions.. (relatively calm) pretty sweet..they are fast..(dont see to many racing boats with deep V's do we?......and best to fish out of, little tip, very stable.. I liked mine,,, just not big enough for the big lakes I go in...
ummmm. see plenty of v hull race boats everywhere and zero tri hull, unless your somehow claiming cats with a center pod as a tri hull. Thats a real big stretch there.

I think Tri-Hulls are heavier for any given size, a lot more material on the sides.I have had Tri-Hull bowriders in the past, but wanted a Vhull for the latest new to me boat and am glad I waited for the Vhull bowrider I bought. It rides much better than the Tri's did, all about the same size in 16 foot range. With this new boat I do not really need the width up front.

Just a thought: the Boston Whaler 17 classic "smirked" cathedral hull (1976-2002) is as close
as you can get for a compromise between a tri-hull and a deep V-hull, and there's plenty around (run a searchtempest search in craigslist within a 200 miles radius for "Montauk").

Glastron had a tri-hull with higher sponsons like that, and V-hull-esque planing strakes and pads on the center. Not sure it is relevent now as this was late 60's early 70's, I will try to get a pic posted below...

And remember that any of these old boats will most likely need a total rebuild due to rotten wood and wet foam.

I don't see any boat manufactures making tri-hulls anymore. They were once a craze back in the 60-70's but the rough ride and maybe weight caused them to go away. For resale and comfort I think the choice is an easy one for you to make. Have fun and do let us know what you end up with, we really like pictures and I hope the site is fixed so you can post them up soon.
