I just bought a 1998 186SEi Larson with a 4.3L GX Volvo. I know that on the Mercruiser an LX after the displacement means that it has a 4 barrel carb, is this also true of the "GL" Volvo? I went to Larsonboats.com but the site is pretty generic, not much info.

I was surprised that the boat ran almost 50 mph, it really looks stock. A guy at work swears that a good tuned - good running 4.3 will run with a 5.0 V8.

The sound system sucks (any recommendations on good qualitty/affordability here). There is a "whale tail" on the outdrive, not sure why it is there. Other than the trim indicator sending unit (dealer is replacing it) it is a very clean boat.

We are moving from a SeaRay sport jet up to this boat, no more water doughnuts for me. . .

I dont know about the LX thing, but a qjet carb should make it scream.
On the souns system, most stock systems do sound tinny. But be carefull about upgrading beyond the charging system's capacity to charge the bats.
Some guys install amps, but again, the current draw is too heavy in most cases. Besides, sound really carries over water.
You wont make very many friends.

I forgot, the Kenwood 60x4 is a great sounding, self-contained head. I liked the one in my truck so much, I went out and got one for my river banshi. It sounds great,but does not claim to be waterproof or marine grade. Mine is inside a tronix box, so it doesn't get wet.

Volvo's designation: G=General Motors block
L=Limited Output
The GI is an injected motor, yours should have a 2 barrel carb and is rated at 190 HP. In the 5.7 V8's there are GS and GSi models, the "S" being 'superior' output, or hi-po versions.

------------------
I'm going to invent a TCW3/citronella oil blend and make a fortune!
