I have a 2008 216 WT. Trying to get a Motor guide W75 mounted on the from. Does anyone have any install pics for a trolling motor on one of the deck boats? I need to make a bracket to clear the lip on the bow, and looking for some advise.

Re: Deck boat trolling motor

Wow, good looking boat. That is going to be a tough one. I would start by looking at your local Tahoe dealer and see how the boats similar to yours that come with a trolling motor are mounted. From there you can purchase components from Tracker or have them manufactured at a local machine/welding shop. There are several posts on this forum of how to mount the Motorguide wireless trolling motors on the runabouts. Do a search on this forum and type in "Motorguide" and see what you think. Good luck and as always, keep us posted.

Re: Deck boat trolling motor

I have been to Bass Pro and they are completely useless. They do not have any of the deck boats at the store with a trolling motor, and explain to me that it is a factory option and they do not have the bracket and sent me to the marine department where they just had the standard quick disconnect. The runabouts they have, do not have the same lip on the bow, so the bracket for those will not work. I have been to the end of google and back looking for an install picture and have not come up with anything. i am in the process of creating my own CAD design to take to a fab shop, but was just looking to see what others had done.

Re: Deck boat trolling motor

Hey thanks for those pictures. I also have a Tahoe 216 and bought a nice Minn Kota trolling motor only to find out the mounts don't work. Can you please tell me how that white mount is attached to the deck of your boat? Were you able to access under the deck and using nuts or are you using some other fastening system that you can use from the top? I don't know how to gain access under that front deck. Thanks again.

I can access the area via the anchor hatch on the 195 I/O. They are installed using stainless steel screws with self locking stainless steel nuts.

mrkd4lif,

I have a 196WTOB with a factory installed trolling motor. You are welcomed to come take a look at it if you are in the Mandeville area.

Thanks for these pics - the first ones I've found anywhere of an installed trolling motor on a 195. Can you tell me what the main mounting plate is made of? It looks like it might be fiberglass but I would think steel would be better.

Not really sure. Boat is still in storage as it is still cold here in Colorado (a little snow this morning). Appears to be a high impact, very hard plastic.

Re: Deck boat trolling motor

I ended up using 1/4" aluminum to mount mine. i am very happy how it turned out. I also used 1/8" rubber to cushion it and act like a spacer.

I installed a wireless unit on my Q3(I know not the same boat)I just had to use a one inch thick peace of aluminum.Milled out the area to accept to bow pin and part of the rear area of the plate to make it lighter.Used thicker material as it has to stick out over the bow more to accept the wireless unit.

Paul, looks like you have a depth finder pickup on the trolling motor. How did you get power to it?

Re: Deck boat trolling motor

I just bought a 2010 Tahoe 215xi and bought a 101 lbs thrust 62 inch minn kota maxxum. It is currently at the marina and they have no idea how to mount it. Did you guys buy the mounting plate? Would a quick release mounting plate work? Also can I mount this on an angle rather than straight down the middle of the bow, I havent seen any pictures of it mounted like this. Thanks a lot.

Re: Deck boat trolling motor

I attached the minkota quick release puck to a 10"x22" piece of 3/4 inch plywood and the mounting plate to the motor. Then attached the plywood to the bow with 4 screws. I had to cut a piece of the lip of the anchor storage compartment with a dremel and tungsten cutting bit to gain access to the underside of the bow. Then I made two notches on each side of the plywood at the front and used a ratchet tie down fed through the notches and attached to the exising trailer attachment hook lower down on the hull. So I can attatch the plywood with the 4 screws, which secures the back of the plywood, and the tie-down secures the front of the plywood after ratcheting it down nice and tight. Oh, the 4 screws are secured with wing-nuts under the bow and I used the rubber bushings that came with the motor hardware under the plywood. Once all secure, I simply drop the motor on to the puck and secure with locking pin. The motor is a PowerDrive 24V, 62 inch shaft, with i-Pilot. The whole works is removeable so no motor in the way when tubing and skiiing. Works like a charm!
