Dealer wants me to write off my boat for hull damage

I hit a rock up north at very low speed off plane. I have two spots 8 inches long. The first one is at half way point right on the V. The other is 3/4 down near the back also right on the V. Doesn't look like much damage when you look under the boat. They say the need to repair it from the inside and that to do so will require cutting the deck off and a bulk head. Advised me to call insurance and write it off. I was shocked!! The spots are right on the keel and look like 2 3/8 inch wide scrapes into the glass.
Boat is 2005 Bayliner 18 ft, otherwise new cond. It's worth about $13 k in my opinion. Advice? Is it not possible to fix this properly with fiberglass and gel coat from the outside. I don't know what to do.

Thanks

Yeah, I agree, without Pics it's not possible to give you the advice needed. If, BIG IF, the underlying glass has not been damaged or effected in any way then it MIGHT be possible to effect the repairs from the outside only. Pics will tell the tale. Make sure to give us both close up and perspective pics so we can see exactly what has happened and where exactly the damage is.

I don't have pics right now. Boat is at dealer on blocks. I can a small hump on the area that is visible from inside. No water coming in. It sat in the water for 5 days after the incident . They said the can build it up and paint it , but there will be a small raise. I want gel coat. Original quote was $1300

I would call your insurance, but I doubt they will write it off...

I have fixed some pretty big holes on sail boats, its just a matter of doing it right so it will survey when your done.

I think dealer is just saying that they don't want to fix it . . . did the gashes go thru the hull? that would be the thing that would require fixing from the inside. IMHO

Did not go through, but close. I was on vacation . Pulled the boat out, looked at the damage. Didn't look like much to me.
Put it back in the water and used it everyday for 5 days straght , fishing, tubing ect. No water coming it at all. I'm baffled.
I think I will pick it up and bring it somewhere else. Never hit a rock in 25 years of fishing on Lake Nippissing. Just got this boat 2 months ago, and now this nightmare. When I got the boat it had 5 hours on it. It looks brand new. I want to throw up.

Yea, don't throw up in the boat, because that will total it. Good idea on bringing it to someone else. Preferably a shop that specializes in fiberglass repair. Also, have the insurance look at it there, etc.

Brought to another guy who does fiberglass boat repair exclusively. He is fixing it for $400. Apparently not a write off....

If you could get to it from the inside it would be great, makes it easier, but it can be done from the outside.

Guessing the first place doesn't get too many mentions on Angie's List :)

Yeah, for sure that's not a "Totaled" Boat. As ondarvr said inside/out would be ideal but I see nothing there that couln't be repaired from the outside. Not to say that some fracturing might have occurred that the pic does not reveal and Up close and personal inspection might reveal. But if in fact the only damage is what's visible in the pic, the for sure that can be repaired for the price given.

The initial shop/dealer gets a " c'mon man " for that.

Looks like a hull fracture to me ..

Insurance should see this ..

Sometimes it takes pulling the motor or tank.

Dont get subjected to a simple outside repair if it actually fractured the Hull.

I would guess the first dealer just didn't want to do the work, that happens alot. Never trust an opinion without getting multiple seconds. That's what makes iboats so great. I think you will be just fine once repaired.
