Gentelmen it's me again, I have been struggling with this boat since I've purchased it. It has sat un-used for 9 years, I did a compression test and found #1 cylinder to only have 65psi, all other cylinders have 125/127psi. I really need some advice as where to go next. I'm a retired 25yr ASE Master Technician for automobiles, so I understand engines. If this were a car engine I would know right where to go. With it being a 2 stroke engine, I'm not quite sure. So I'm here asking... Please help...

Re: Dead Cylinder

Since the compression is not zero, you may not need an overhaul, boring and new piston and rings. You can remove the top transfer cover (starboard side of block) and have a look at the rings. They may be stuck into the grooves. Some additives like seafoam or powertune can free them up. Seafoam comes in a spray. Spray the cylinder with the motor tilted up and let her sit a while.

Re: Dead Cylinder

Squirt a little 2 cycle oil into each cylinder and try compression again. If #1 doesn't improve, then try the Seafoam trick to see if they start to equalize. If those don't work, then start worrying.

Re: Dead Cylinder

Just pull the head and inspect cylinder as if its only got 65psi its hurt or head gasket has failed. This also could be part of your water flow/cooling problem. Usually on a V-6 if you have more than 20 psi drop between cylinders heads need to come off and cylinder/s inspected.
