Dead Amplifier

Dead amp on a "73" Johnson 65hp @5000 rpm.<br />mod,VXL-148<br />ser,J2880581<br />Has anyone sucsessfuly conveted this powerhead to a "car/bike" type coil or coils? With a truck coil it will fire...but not run..Can the points be timed in a way that it will run? Has any one had any luck at doing this. I just gotta get this boat going,catfish tourny in two weeks.

Dont believe that model has points, do a search here and it explains how to convert the models with points, dont know if it will help you. Check Seiler Marine for a good deal on an amplifier. Just bought one for my 71 60 horse, comes with a new coil and very reasonable.
