Ouch. Looks like the LEO got too excited and wasn't paying attention. Distressed boat seems to have been taken care of by the coast guard..

that's pretty clearly driver error, looks like someone is going to get a good talking too...

The LEO was responding to a persons "in the water" emergency, I hope he did not run over them when he got there... :faint2:

That's exactly what I did on my very first outing in my boat a few years ago... except it was me hitting a moored Police boat! Not a great idea. :embarassed::facepalm:

This LEO boat driver must have gone to the same emergency response training school as the airport firetruck driver that ran over (and killed) the schoolgirl ejected from the Asiana flight 214 that crashed short of the runway at San Francisco just 2 months ago.

Their motto: "I'm going to get to the emergency, even if it kills someone!"

Did anyone notice him almost hit a third boat full of tourists in the middle of the channel?

I've been moored at that same spot before, seen the harbor police around, I didn't realize they were that stupid.

Not only is that a no-wake zone, he didn't even look before taking off at full throttle. That area is littered with kayaks, canoes, standing paddleboarders, tourist and duck boats filled with people as well as people just hanging out in the water. I've been through there many times and it take a careful eye even at the posted no-wake speed.

That's just negligent.

I believe the law says that maritime accidents are criminal offenses. (Not civil violations like a traffic ticket.)
These LEO's should be prosecuted as criminals. Criminal negligence!

This just goes to show that safety should be first priority for everyone on the water. Even LEOs.

I don't think that's a fair comparison, nor do I think it's fair to blame the airport firetruck driver. No, I wasn't at either incident.

But first, from the boat video, there is no excuse whatsoever for the boat driver's action. None. He was at a no-panic situation, gunned a powerful boat before turning toward his intended path, had no control or skill in knowing how his boat handles.

At the airport, as i understand it, the girl was covered in the flame foam and couldn't be seen. Night-time, too, IIRC. Regardless, every second counts ni getting all those people off the burning plane before it is engulfed or explodes. There is panic and confusion and uncertainty and everyone does the best he can at the moment. I really feel sorry for that driver and what he has to live with anyway, plus all the snide comments about the accident. If there was something truly stupid he did, enlighten us all.

Agreed. From what I was able to read, there was no way the fire truck driver could have known there was somebody in his path.
