Re: Daytona - Firecracker 400 And The Latest Flap

She did plenty of 'rubbin in Indycar. I saw her cause many-a-wreck that took out other cars, and her frustration belied the fact that she was usually to blame. I think she'd be too dangerous in ALMS unless she wasn't in a prototype or something.

She is certainly a cash cow, and I guess if that's the main way you can keep yourself in a racing field, then so be it?
At least until she starts taking out other cars with her......then other teams will start barking.

many-a-wreck? Dude.

Good point, can Johnson get a good restart for a change? If so, and he stays in the lead, it's all over. Tough to pass when they all have the go pedal pegged to the floor......

Two big wrecks on the last lap. There will be a bunch of discussions next week about the 2nd wreck not happening if they threw the yellow on the first one. Not sure if Danica was turned, or, she just came down....

Were there even 10 cars not involved in a last lap wreck?

Nothing in the second wreck had do do with the first wreck, so not sure why there would be any discussion.
The wrecks were in the last lap no matter what, at least NASCAR let them finish the race in case something happened in turns 3 or 4 to get a new leader. That would have been a big discussion and the 48 haters saying the wrecks were to make sure the 48 won.

And besides we got another 12-14 cars wrecked that wouldn't have wrecked otherwise.

Sure they would. This race turned out the same way most plate races do. A big wreck right after turn four coming to the line.

It's fun to watch, but plate racin' is sooo stupid.

And what in heck with the roof flaps. First I heard they were all the same part and supplied by a Roush company, and that they had been modified. Is that true? If they modified them then they should get serious penalties. If they were supplied wrong, minor penalties and Roush should pay the teams for their trouble. My multiple .02s

No, they wouldn't because without GWC the race would have been over long before they had a chance to crash.

Without the G-W-C, they probably still would have crashed. It happens at the end when the drivers try to push to the front. G-W-C doesn't cause wrecks, drivers do. Besides, this all just guessing, isn't it?

I am, almost turned it off with the "start your engines" command  Lame to say the least.

I just found a video of this. Kinda wish I hadn't. :faint2:

What I'm saying is the without the G-W-C the race would have ended under yellow and the cars that ended up crashing during the GWC would have been chugging along peacefully at ~60-70 mph.

Kinda???????? That was really, really bad........ I watched it in disbelief....

It had nothing to do with a GWC, really. The second crash on the last lap had everything to do with not throwing the caution after the first one....

NASCAR hasn't decided yet if there will be any penalties enforced for the 31 Cup/Nationwide teams that had illegal roof flap spacers...

Re: Daytona - Firecracker 400 And The Latest Flap

No penalties after Daytona: Following a thorough review, NASCAR announced Wednesday that it will not assess penalties to the teams that had to change out the spacers that support the hinge bar of the car's roof flaps last week at Daytona International Speedway. There were 16 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams and 15 NASCAR Nationwide Series teams that were involved. "We examined this from every aspect we possibly could and determined that there would be no penalties involved," said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR vice president of competition. "Based upon our inspection and subsequent review, it was our determination that the functionality and safety aspects of the roof flaps were not compromised and the on track competition would not be impacted. Moving forward we will work with the roof flap manufacturer and the race teams to evaluate and optimize the associated installation hardware, review the process in its totality and communicate in a timely manner to the garage area any revisions that we determine need to be made."(NASCAR)(7-10-2013)
