You know after walking around your tow vehicle without the trailer on can be a shin jaring experience. After I had done this several times, I learned real quick to not be so close to my truck when I walk in back of it. Right when I learned that it was there and actually scared of the hitch ball. The dang on thing went and attacked me again in a way that really hurt me. I was in the back of my truck clearing some junk out. So when I was stepping backwards out of the back of the truck the hitch ball slid up the inside of my pants leg throwing me off balance. By the time I realized what was going on it was too late. Down I went right on my tail bone. Brusied and Broken and out of work for a week. This by far is the dumbest human trick that I hope to never repeat, and hope nobody else does the same. I am now stowing the hitch behind my seat when not in use.

They are sneaky and will take revenge on you. Can't blame them. How would you like it if someone put something over your head and told you to drag around something 50,000 times your size all day!

I take my hitch off everytime i disconnect my trailer from it. one reason is like was mentioned it hurts when you walk into it. another reason is it hurts me even more when the wife walks into it (boy she can have a temper) and the final reason is i dont have a locking pin for it and am affraid of someone walking off with it.

I leave mine in. It helps me park at the parking garage at work. It's designed for cars I think, so even with the truck all the way in the spot it sticks out pretty far (at least it's easy to spot!). If I leave the hitch in, I can back right into the wall and at least know I'm as far in as I can be. :)

Yep....hurts like blazes. I got a front hitch on my truck and always forget to take the reciever out. Park to close to herselfs truck and BLAM! Right in the shin bone. Dang I hate when that happens.

I leave mine in. Had a kid rear end my truck the other day and his cherokee got trashed as my bumper got a little ding.

Oh yeah outboard guy, that too! My truck was 2 weeks old (still had paper license plate) and some BOZO in a mercedes rear ended me at a light. Got out of the car with the god damn cellphone still attached to his ear. He had a big hole in his front bumper and it was a mess. I just laughed a bit and said I'm fine don't worry about it! Didn't even scratch my ball! He was all pissed off and when the light changed he took off, the funniest thing was his car still had the paper license plate on it too! HA!

The funnier thing was when I had a VW bug.I had monza exhaust that comes out as four 1 1/2 pipes cut at a slant.I had removed the bumper.I was going to the beach and was in stop and go traffic when I stopped and the camaro behind me didn't.WhenI got out to view the damage I saw four perfect holes punched in his nice fiberglass front end. I was laughing so hard I had a hard time telling him that we didn't need to exchange info. :D

We are in good company. Even Bill Dance has fallen prey to the vicious trailer ball. :D

I would like to know who "hasn't" been involved with some incident of a trailer ball. I would like to shake their hand ;-)

Similar to boat plugs there are two types of people that pull trailers. Those that have tripped over trailer balls and those that will.

Ever gotten your shoelace stuck on the latch of the trailer coupler while stepping over the tongue?

They are vicious, those balls...but they are loyal too. Someone jumped mine and tried to back off quick before the cops would be there. Lost the whole bumper and grill on his car and had to get out to get it all out of the way. I like these barbless hooks d:)

Yep, I've had many bruises over the years from those things. Worst time didn't hurt my leg but certainly my wallet. I ran my leg into the freshly greased ball with a new pair of kacki pants. That grease does not come out!

I always leave my Rapid Hitch in, all shiny and beautiful billet...but anyways, I always leave it in because it's cheap insurance, and people always like to pull up on my bumper. Also, once I came out of school, and as I was putting the key in to start it up, BAM, a kid was walking by my tailgate and hit the hitch. I laughed so hard...
