Damage I did to my hull. Should I worry?

Yesterday I dismantled the Batboat and damaged the hull.

The original floor was rotted so a previous owner wood screwed plywood on top. That was rotted, too, and some of the screws were rusted. To help get it out I pryed with a hammer claw.

Unfortunately, I didn't realize that I was also doing this to the hull [see photo]. This is in three spots but the photo shows the worse of it.

1) all three dents are above the waterline 2) the gelcoat is cracked.

Should I worry about it or not? Will these leak water?

All dents are no bigger than a quarter.

From the looks of the picture I would grind it out and repair it, and easy with the claw hammer:)

Yep, grind it out and replace the damaged glass.

When you're using a pry tool of any kind in a glass boat, make sure you put a piece of wood behind the pry point (fulcrum) big enough to spread the load out. It'll save much extra damage.

This isn't a big deal though, take you maybe a couple hours to fix at most.

1. duct tape the outside
2. mix resin & hardener
3. sand down inside until smooth
4. coat with resin mixture
5. lay down fiberglass mat
6. roll resin mixture onto mat and completely wet it out
7. wait until cured and remove duct tape
8. sand smooth
9. paint

done.

The funny thing is that the fiberglass isn't damaged. I think I just flexed it enough to crack the gel coat. However, I'll fix the inside just in case. Thanks for the tips.

If it flexed enough to crack the gel coat, you can be sure there's some damaged resin in the glass too... just be sure when you grind it out that you get all the loose resin and glass to go.

My grand total for hull holes after repairing my boat was 3... 3 small holes completely through the hull on my 20 footer from careless misuse of tools :)

doubt you are correct, fix it correctly while you are at this point, rather then have to go back later.

I just looked at the location of the 3 puncture points. They're all in the area that have to be ground down for when I glass the floor in. Looks like I will be killing two birds with one stone! :)
