Cylinder Head Bolt question

I'm ready to install the heads on my 87 Johnson 88 HP SPL(J88MLSCUS). Do I use any type of Loctite on the head bolts.

I have the same question about the bolts that hold the inner and outer exhaust covers on. I am referring to the exhaust covers between the cylinder heads.

I have both Loctite Red and OMC's Gasket sealing compound on hand.

Thanks for answering a newbie's questions

Re: Cylinder Head Bolt question

Others will chime in but,. NEVER with Loc Tite. I don't use anything and have never had a problem; just make sure you torque each bolt to the proper specs and in the order called for in the manual..

Re: Cylinder Head Bolt question

You may want to retorque the head bolts and exhaust cover bolts after the engine goes through a couple of heat/cool cycles.
