Re: Cut vent holes in shrink wrap?

got my boat wrapped and stored in northern Ontario just like all the rest having been done this way for ever ..........no vents.......never heard of problems like what your describing or think you'll have

Wrapped or tarped? No vents at all?
The reason I want to keep it covered is to keep the mice out. I can clean dust but I don't want mice in my new boat.

my boat is shrink wrapped with no vents....... and as far as I know nobody up here has had any problems with mice, the guy down the road from me just shrink wrapped his pontoon boat himself, no vents, so it can't be that difficult to do......in fact the vent thing kinda has got me looking at other wraps and I haven't seen any installed anywhere.......must be an american thing or something

plenty of folks wrap their boats without vents here too...... of course they also wear shoes without socks sometimes and wonder why their feet are cold..... look at the eaves of your house... see the vents? the boat needs em for the same reason... it is enclosed

not going to comment on the plastic wrap as many have done so.

however mice will go where they think there is food, or shelter. their little teeth have no problem chewing thru plastic. my best solution is to get mouse traps with peanut butter on them, and simply terminate the little pests. I have 8 traps around each of my vehicles in storage. I usually find 1 or two dead mice per week, however none get in the vehicles or boat. I use fabric sheets to keep spiders out and keep the boat and cars smelling nice.

Black Walnut husks also will deter vermin and whatnot...Kinda like natures mothballs. I get them from a friend(and trust me...if you know someone with a BW tree, they'll be MORE than happy to give you all you want...and in some cases will offer the whole tree!), and lay them on styrofoam plates in my camper/boat. Don't know if THAT was the trick...but I've had no rodent problems since.

Just went on the net and there are dozens of places that sell WHITE shrink wrap, it can't be all bad. Call someone on the net that sells the stuff and talk to them.

A lot of people use White because they want to work on their boats and White lets light in. Being in inside storage I don't think any color will make a difference.

Make a few calls and don't let the people on here scare you about White. I personally would keep it on. You can also buy shrinkwrap doors so you can climb into your boat during storage.
We lived in Michigan for 65 years and owned over 18 boats, several of them were shrinkwraped with vents and doors and we never had any problems.

I am going to check out the boat this weekend and see if there is any moisture inside. If there is, I will cut the wrap off.
