It's a Bravo, I checked the engine serial number.

I pulled four plugs - the easy ones to get to in the back. All had a little oil on them. One plug I pulled POURED water out.

I then turned the key and it barely turned over - more than it did before I pulled the four plugs.

Pull all the plugs and try it.

Did the engine diesel when you shut it off while it was hot?
Was you on plane when you shut the engine off?

I don't think it dieseled.
I was not planed out. I pulled back the throttle as fast as I could and shut it off. I'm thinking that I was still moving but not planed out when I killed it.

If the exhaust shutters were burned out during the overheat, shutting the engine off while moving could cause water to slosh up into the engine through the exhaust and into any cylinder with an open or partially open valve,
Yes pull the other plugs, get the water out, and spray some oil in the cylinder to prevent rust. You need to get it started ASAP, even if you only run it for a few seconds at a time.
You may have to pull the plugs and dry them off several times with compressed air, or warm them up with a propane torch to get them dried enough to start the engine.

I pulled the other plugs and it turned over.

My son is drying the plugs. What should I spray into the plug holes?

Is WD-40 okay?

better than nothing at all - once the plugs are dry re-install them and run the engine for 10-20 seconds, you may still have an overheat issue

have you checked the impeller yet??

Crank the engine over for about 10 or 15 seconds to blow as much water out as possible. Then spray in some WD. Crank again, then install the plugs and see if you can get it started.

PS, when cranking, pull the lanyard kill switch so you don't have spark or fuel going into the engine.

Thanks so much! I got it started, and it's running great. I had to clean the plugs twice. I also sprayed the hole twice with WD-40.

Now, I have to look at why the engine got hot in the first place.

Do I look at the empeller?

According to his engine SN, he has a Bravo drive, not sure which one though.

Here is a diagram that shows the impeller and seal ring you need for the raw water pump.

You also need to pull the elbows and check the exhaust shutters to see if they are burned up.

Here is the manuals that cover the engine and the exhaust.

Try them now. Not sure what happened. Not like I've never posted pictures on here before.

Behind which pulley is the empeller housing

It's impeller, not empeller.

The pump should be down low on the stbd side front of the motor. You may or may not have all the fittings shown on the back of the pump, depends on which drain system you have.
You thought the plugs where hard to get to? Wait till you go after that pump. Best to remove the pump, replace the impeller, then re-install the pump. Liquid dish soap makes a great lube for the new impeller.

Thanks to Don and the folks at iboats.com, my family took a nice ride and had some play time at Hell's Gate on Possum Kingdom Lake, Texas.

Appreciate it men!

Is that the bottom part of the impeller stuck in the housing?

looks like the hub of the old one

the new one sitting on the left there??

op may want to inspect the cooling system for the eight missing impeller vanes
