Crestliner livewell pump not working

I have a '03 Fishhawk and the livewell pump stopped. I picked up a new cartridge for the pump, a Mayfair, however I noticed that the light on the switch does not come on like all the others do in the "on" position. Would this be caused by a faulty pump or is it an electrical connection problem? I did not find any blown fuses in the panel and not sure if there's an inline fuse on these pumps. I don't want to cut wires to the pump unneccesarily if the pump itself isn't the problem.

Anyone with any experience with these?

Thank you.

Re: Crestliner livewell pump not working

You apparently lost +12V or the ground connection at the switch. Switches with a built-in indicator light have a ground connection on them. The fact that the light doesn't come on would point to that as one fault although the ground connection wouldn't be the cause of the pump not working. Loss of +12V at the switch would fail to light the indicator and would also cause the pump to fail to run. A test light or voltmeter is all you need to troubleshoot this. Check for +12V at the input to the switch. If its not there, there is a wiring problem. If +12V is available, turn the switch on and check for +12V at the output of the switch. If not there, the switch is bad. If it is, there is wiring problem between there and the pump (assuming you have replaced the pump).

Re: Crestliner livewell pump not working

Thanks, Silvertip.

I have not replaced the pump cartridge yet as I didn't want to start cutting into wires if there was a problem other than the pump itself, as you indicated there might be. I will have to do a little investigating this weekend.
