I'm a firm believer in buildin' bridges on Steel foundations,.....

Mmmmm makes me think that Warning Signs should be used...... CAUTION COMPOSITE BEAMS - CROSS AT YOUR OWN RISK! Probably not good for tourism either!

Ayuh,..... After hearing that the little bridge in Hampden is one of these, I'll take a different route to go down that way,....

My thoughts is the beams would not be allowed unless proven to be safe. When they complete the investigation it could be they were not made correctly.

Use to make floor joist with only 2x stuff until engineered beams were proven better

Going to be mighty expensive for someone.
Thankfully it didn’t happen after it was open to traffic.

I’m a steel guy, but it’s not so good for coastal construction.

The Chesapeake Bay bridge in Annapolis has been under continuous maintenance (sand blast and paint) for as long as I can remember.

All the new bridges I’ve seen built in the past 10 years or so are precast and cast in place construction.

Ayuh,.... The local news is saying the usual, the investigation is ongoing,....

I've been watching this for awhile, as my favorite grocery store is on the other side,...
There is(was) 3 spans on this side of the little island, on just the other side of the collapsed span. What has been baffling me is the Extreme arch in each of the 3 sections, like a foot of rise, 'n fall in each section,... Way too much for just drainage,..... After the collapse, I'm guessing that extreme arch is to load the concrete with tension, making it stronger, 'cause concrete don't bend, load, or not,....
Anyways, I wanta see steel beams in there,.... It collapsed with only 2 of the 10 or more loads of concrete poured onto just the 1 of the 3 sections, on this side of the island,....

so....technology developed by students at U of Main.....
installed with multiple "repairs to the FRP"
noted gaps in the FRP forms that needed mitigation

Bet there is at least one U of Maine graduate along with the project manager going "Oh Ship"

I dont know what the 'best" bridge is, as history has shown that nearly every type of bridge will collapse.

Ever see the chamber of an empty flat bed, aluminum trailer?

The bow is to compensate for the deflection of the fiberglass members when loaded.

I would agree, however based on the guy in the video that Bondo posted, there were issues causing gaps in the sides between the concrete and the FRP G-beam form. the gaps would indicate that the FRP was failing way before the top deck was applied.

in my best Yoda voice...... Bridge replacement think I do.
