Hook bat. + to starter solenoid and 12v to small terminal (yellow wired) on solenoid to activate.
Yep, 12v to + coil if you want spark.

Is there any constant 12V+ on the solenoid to jump the power from?

The main Red battery cable or from the + side of the battery itself.

Re: cranking 140 mercruiser

You have 1 of 3 problems.
1. Dead battery
2. A bad cable
3. Poor connetion (Corrosion, paint, loose, ........)

Re: cranking 140 mercruiser

Thanks for the help guy's. I got the 140 cranked on my garage floor with the help of my neighbor. I had a very close call as I forgot to remove the drive shaft yolk from coupler. The drive shaft yolk shot out like a missle & was so close it put grease on the side of my ckeek & ear,& shatterd the winshield of my truck. Thank the Lord for keeping me from getting hurt. The engine coupler wobbles a good bit with engine running, Is this normal?

I have another question, My 4 winns runs great at 20 to 25 mph until I give it full throtle & then asks like it wants to cut out. Any ideas on what may be the problem ? The carb was rebuit last year.

You shouldn't have anything in the coupler with the engine out of the boat. The gimbal bearing is what holds everything square AFTER you get the alignment adjusted properly.

It would be best to start a new thread on what sounds like your other boats problem, or it will get very confusing.

loss of power at full throtle

loss of power at full throtle

My 86 4 winns with 140 mercruiser runs great at 20 to 25 mph but wants to cut off when giving full throtle, when I back off the gas it runs smooth. Any idea what might be my problem? The carb was rebuilt last year.

Ayuh,... It's a Fuel Delivery Issue...

1st off,.. Change the Fuel Filters...
Then it Could be the Tank, Pickup, Lines, Fuelpump, or Carb... Hopefully it's Just the Filters...

Btw,... Nope, there shouldn't be Any wobble in the coupler,... Sounds like your's is Junk...

No, No, No, I meant start a completely new thread, changing the subject from one thing to another in one post means very few people will ever see your second question as most only answer the original post and never read the other replies.
