crankcase cover disassembly

I am in the process of replacing the oil injection drive gear on the crankshaft of a 1995 150 HP Mercury and cannot figure out how to remove the crankshaft cover where it splits off of the crankshaft housing. I've tried prying at the pry points in the repair manual and it won't come apart.
