Crack in the Jon

Hello I have a crack in my 12ft Jon boat, I’m looking to repair it but don’t know what way to go. They are small cracks that are starting to form where the cross supports are on the inside of the hull, one of them is already cracked and leaking a good amount of water when running 15mph. I was thinking of putting JB weld and put an aluminum patch over with 5200 then a good layer of epoxy paint. My last resort was get it welded not sure how much that will be, not sure what to do. Any comment help, thank you.

i would get it welded. if you dont want to do that, you need to rivet a patch panel over the crack and basically add some structure around it. the JB weld wont do anything in this situation but make your wallet lighter.

I had a similar problem. I went to a metal store and picked up a scrap piece of aluminum plate for $3 and cut it to the size I wanted, sanded the area down a bit, drilled holes for the rivets, put M5200 on the surface, stuck it on and riveted it tight. If you are uncomfortable with rivets you can use stainless trussheaded phillips bolts, washers and nuts of roughly the size as the rivets. Put the bolt heads on the outside and bolt it on.
