Crabbing off a Q7i

My kids want to be able to crab with a trot line off our Q7i. I last did this 20 years ago with the inlaws. Anybody ever try this? If so how did you rig it up on your boat? I plan on making it out of pvc but am not sure how to mount it to the boat. If this does not work I guess the kids will have to use a the traps.

He's up by me in Ellicott City, MD. I don't recommend trot lining unless you want something permanent on the boat. I'm in OC I use hand lines and traps they are more fun anyway. Just anchor up in crabbing territory throw out hand-lines all over the boat and a trap from and rear....you'll catch them up pretty decent at least I have....I then put them in a cage over the side to keep them living nicely and a one or two in the livewell to keep the dog occupied (really to scare my gf).

@whmoore18, Thanks for the advice. I think we will give it a try. We have a bunch of crab traps that the kids like to use off the pier at Frontier Town campgrounds down your way. We hope to get out on the Chesapeake Bay this weekend and do some boating. Maybe we will drop a trap or two.

I mean if this was a crab boat fine but a trot line rig on a pleasure boat isn't quite the best look. I'm going fishing then crabbing tomorrow

HAHAHA Well just to let anyone know in the north chesapeake is probably the place to be trying to get males. All the females seem to be in OC and pregnant. 2 weeks and im cleaning house when they drop those eggs....They are absolutely huge!!!
