I was told when I damaged the prop (submerged stump) that this caused the coupler failure. Is this possible?

Normally, prop hub will fail first. Take to prop shop for testing. If you need to test coupler, lock up motor from spinning using best way. Make sure OD is in gear. Then using 2 jam nuts installed on prop shaft, try turning motor. Long breaker bar or torque wrench should provide enough manual torque. You should know really quick.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,....... Not only possible, but quite likely,.....

Pull the drive, 'n then look over the splines through the gimbel bearing,....
You might also be able to see the rubber hub, by looking from behind the motor,....

Thank you, the insurance company is trying to deny the claim and the mechanics report.

I have had quite a few customers who had damage from submerged objects always was able to help the customer. Has the drive and prop been inspected by an adjuster? If the damage is less than your deductible then you are out of luck.
Just be sure to have the shop check for any additional damage that is not visible without a close inspection.

Yes, he went to the shop. The shop told me to call insurance company. It’s much more than the deductible.
